MBBS admission in India

MBBS- Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery is one of the most preferred and prestigious courses in India. By completing an MBBS degree, candidates become qualified doctors. Pursuing MBBS is a challenging task, as students are tested at every stage of becoming a doctor. Candidates dreaming to become a doctor should know the detailed MBBS admission process in India.

MBBS admission in India -Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS): The course duration is 5½ years (4½ years of classroom study followed by a year of rotating internship). The 4½ years of class room study is broken into 3 phases of 18 months each. Each phase of 18 months is known as Professional and is further divided into 3 semesters of 6 months each. There is a semester exam at the end of each semester and a Professional exam at the end of each professional. The third professional is devoted to monthly clinical work in the wards and departments of the hospital. In all there are 3 professional examinations, followed by practical and clinical examinations. Pass percentage required is 50 per cent.

Eligibility for MBBS Admission in India:

Students should have cleared 10+2 exam with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Zoology & Botany).
Student must be an Indian National for admission through All India Entrance Exam (NEET).
Student should be 17+ as on 31st December of the year of admission.
After class 12, it’s crucial to start preparing for three competitive entrance examinations: National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), All India Institute of Medical Sciences for MBBS (AIIMS MBBS) and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER MBBS) entrance exams.

Entrance test for MBBS Admission in India:

To get MBBS Admission In India the candidate must pass the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) examination which is conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency). The NEET exam is conducted every year to set a qualification limit for students to get MBBS admission in India.

NEET Exam Pattern

Mode of Paper: The NEET paper will be held in offline – Pen and paper mode.
Language: Paper will be available in various languages – English, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Odia, Assamese, Telugu, Urdu and Kannada.
Time Duration: 3 hours will be given to complete the paper.
Type of Questions: The paper will have objective type of questions.
Number of questions: There will be total of 180 questions in the paper.
Total Marks: The exam will be of total 720 marks.
Marking Scheme: 4 marks will be given for each correct answer. For each incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted.

HOW TO APPLY FOR NEET

Candidates can apply ONLY ONLINE.
Online submission of application may be made by accessing the Board’s website www.cbseneet.nic.in Instructions for submitting online application and payment of fee are available on website.
Candidates may remit the fee in the following manner:

a. Through any Debit/Credit Card
b. Net Banking/UPI or
c. e-wallets of different service provider

Can we get admission in MBBS without NEET in India?

Though it is not possible to get admission in MBBS without NEET in India. NEET UG exam is mandatory for admission in MBBS in India. If you are not able to pass the NEET-UG exam, You can join allied health science courses. Allied health sciences are the best alternative medical course for biology students.

MBBS seats are classified in the following categories:
(i) All India Quota Seats
(ii) State Government Quota Seats
(iii) Central Institutions/Universities/Deemed Universities
(iv) State/Management/NRI Quota Seats in Private Medical / Dental Colleges or any Private University
(v) Central Pool Quota Seats

Admission procedure after qualifying NEET exam result

Once candidates have qualified the NEET exam, they will be eligible to participate in the central and state level counselling process conducted for MBBS admission. NTA will prepare the list of NEET-UG qualified candidates. Shortlisted students will be eligible for NEET counselling. To participate in the counselling and seat allotment process, students will have to register at the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) portal.

MCC will conduct the NEET counselling for 15% All India Quota, deemed/central universities/AFMS, and ESIC institutes. During counselling for MBBS admission, students will have to register using their personal and NEET related details, pay the counselling fee, and fill their preferences of the course and the colleges they wish to study into. Based on the choices filled by candidates, NEET All India Rank, reservation, and seat matrix, MCC will conduct the NEET UG seat allotment. Candidates who will be offered seats during seat allotment of MBBS admission will have to report to the allotted institute.

MBBS admissions in India State Quota

Admission to MBBS to the remaining 85% state quota seats in government colleges and all seats in private institutes will be conducted by respective state authorities. The counselling for MBBS admission can be conducted in offline or online mode. During state counselling of MBBS admission, candidates will have to register, fill choices of course and colleges, and undergo document verification. In addition to state quota seats, MBBS admission to 100% seats in private colleges in the respective state will be conducted by state authorities.

How much does MBBS cost in India?

The average MBBS fee for government medical colleges in India ranges from INR 20,000 to INR 7.5 lakh, whereas the MBBS fee for private colleges can range from INR 20 lakh to more than INR 2 Cr.

MBBS IN INDIA FOR NRI APPLICANTS

Govt. of India has some reservations of seats for the Non-resident Indian (NRI) students and the students arriving from other countries.
Even NRI medical students can bag admissions in private and govt institutions.
NRI students can apply through the offices of diplomatic consultants, which are available in India.
Indian Embassy can offer more accurate and exact information needed by the NRI students.
Reserved NRI quota seats, which offer admission to International students.
In the NRI quota, too, the seats are allotted based on merit and performance.
Fees structure may vary for the NRI students in the medical council-approved colleges.

KARNATAKA MEDICAL COLLEGE ADMISSION AND FEE STRUCTURE

Karnataka Examination Authority “KEA” is the Governing body which is responsible for the fixation of tuition fee for the Government and Private Medical/Dental Colleges in Karnataka. Fee structure for Deemed colleges of Karnataka is laid down by the respective Deemed Universities. There are three types of colleges available in Karnataka, Government, Private and Deemed.

As Medical/Dental colleges in Karnataka offers different type of seat based on the eligibility conditions described by the “KEA”. Fee structure is different for Domicile students as compared to fee offered to non-domicile.

There are 6 different types of Fee offered as follows:

Government Fee – Fee offered for the Government seat in the Government Medical/Dental Colleges.
Government aided Fee – It is the Government quota seat offered at a subsidized fee in a Private Medical/Dental College.
GMP Fee – Fee offered to domicile candidate in a Private Medical/Dental College.
OPN – Fee offered to non-domicile candidate in a Private Medical/Dental College.
NRI – Fee offered to NRI/Foreign National in a Private Medical/Dental College.
Others – Fee offered under Management quota in a Private Medical/Dental College.
